okay, i remember reading a post that had to do with this before, but i forget what it said. i have several young mbunas and every now and then they will rub their side(s) on the crushed coral in the bottom, or on a rock. i thought maybe that meant the nitrate was high, but it was at zero. im just wondering what the reason could be. thanks

Is it the nitrate or the nitrite that is at zero?

I think that by fish rubbing against things, it's called body lice.

Others here will hopefully help you out a little more than I can.

It's normal if they do it now and then. (sign of aggression, territorial dispute) But if they do it often I would suspect ich or some other external parasite.
