Between Tahoe & Sac
I'll make a long story short: I had an almost total blow-out in my 12G, losing several leathers, shrooms, a pygmy angel, and a bunch of other stuff. So.....I yanked out almost everything and did a make-over. I switched the substrate, much of the LR, put in some new flow toys, added an urchin, pistol shrimp, and assorted snails & hermits, and messed with the filtration. Jaws (the clown) was happy to get out of his 2.5G holding cell and back into the tank as he was one of the original inhabitants.

I'm not sure where to go with the tank now, I was kind of thinking about adding an anenome but am not sure (opinions welcome). I'm a bit afraid to add corals right now, but I'll probably get over that fairly quickly. I'm pretty happy with how it looks now, but you know how quickly we get the gimmies!

Take care guys!

That is an absolutely gorgeous looking tank. I'm really happy for you that you didn't lose everything.

Did you trace the reason for the near crash?

Cheers!

Looks like you've made a big improvement!

I'd skip the anemone in such a small tank.

Are you experiencing any sort of mini-cycle since you've changed out the substrate and some of the LR?

I would try to let things stabilize for a couple of weeks before adding anything else new to the tank.

To answer the questions:

It was the hottest day of the summer (so far) and there was an extended power outage....something the neighbors swear hasn't ever happened (we just bought the house). I came back to a total slaughter...no fun!

Right now I just have some starburst polyps (I think), mushrooms, varied hermits, varied snails, Jaws (the nemo), an urchin, a pistol shrimp, and a bunch of varied live rock. I might call it good with the creatures (maybe a few more hermits and snails) and add a coral here and there. What do you guys think? Yes/no on the anenome (I have 1 no)???
