That's funny. I was thinking the exact opposite. Of course, I haven't really been aquarium shopping in at least 5 years (or might be closer to 10). Before that, out of hundreds of tanks I have bought, sold, traded, fixed, I never had a 40H, only a couple 40B and perhaps a dozen or more 40L. They were always very common in the stores as well.Depends on which 40 gallon you are talking about. There is 3 different ones: 40 breeder (36x18x16), 40 long (48x13x16) and 40 high (36x13x20). The breeder is probably the most widely used, the long and high version are so odd, I would think someone would mention that. I usually think of the 40b when someone simply says 40g. The long and high are a 55 cut shorter or not as high. My apologies ifrufioman has a 40 long or high.
I do know things have changed quite a bit because for the life of me I couldn't find a 30g (36x12x17) anywhere (At least not without it being included in a "kit"). I just wanted to see how much one cost because my son and I are making one and we're pretty sure ours is more expensive but ours will have built in filtration hopefully saving some $$ in the end
