Its been a week, and looking worse....

Although pic is not clear, it resembled Acid-Fast bacterial infection when exposed to low pH for while (maybe from shipping and/or at lfs).
with an assumption that it is so, frist choice would've been Kanamyacin. If cant obtain this med then try daily smear of Bacitracin Ointment (thats right!) on the wound. Water and oil dont mix well so any excess will just fall off. JUST DAILY SMEAR and DONT APPLY TO GILL.

Hope this works whatever fish maybe suffering from. Good Luck!
BTW, Bacintracin Ointment worked well for few decades for many fin rots/lesions, etc. including the ones I catch from the beach to keep at home (puffers, butterflys, seahorses,etc..)

I heard from a guy at a reputable lfs in Seattle that all the dwarf gouramis carry these nasty internal parasites and cysts that develop later in life, lots get open soars and tumors like this just due to where they come from. mostly i think its the ones that are shipped across seas from southeast asia, he says the females are the primary carriers and look the worst which is why you dont see female dwarf gouramis very often. seems legitimate, Ive heard this about asian bred dwarf gouramis many times.
sorry bout your fish breeze.

don't worry breeze I don't think it kills them, he will just be kinda weird and ugly lookin for the rest of his life.

kinda like my husband (zing:owned:) But do you think its safe for the community tank? I have a gourami tank, don't want this spreading.....
LOL!
Wondering if tried my crude method and if so, any sign of recovery?
I really dont know about infestation as I've heard no such claims from livestock industries. But I seemed to come across more topics related to Camallanus worm on Ananbantoids but wether one has such infestation are hard to verify unless actuall Id is done by expert (actually one can do it with microscope by examining poos/droppings.

Camallanus may appear outside the body protruding from the anus.

i have heard the same thing as marinkafuschia regarding these lesions. some refer to them as tumors.

So can other worms at the anus as I've few in my time with naked eyes and under the scope. but on livebearers not on anabantoids.. Better in verifying if examined under scope.

no scope here, just eyeballs. I haven't gotten the cream, been broke, but I want to try it, till payday its just melafix...
