Anyone ever seen these or know what kind of snail they are? I have about a gazzillion of them in one of my tanks now. I am pretty sure they came in with some plants a while back. They are very tiny and do not grow any larger than in the picture below. They are small cone shaped and are varying shades of gray. Sorry I can't get a better picture. Darn things are so small. About the size of the lead tip on a pencil that needs sharpening. Thanks.

I have one of those in my tank. No idea where it came from or what it's called. Mine is the size of a led tip that does not need sharpening, though.. ;) hehe

They are malaysian trumpet snails and they reproduce rapidly when food is abundant. They give birth to live snails, not eggs. They are very hard to eradicate.

I've only heard them called 'parasitic snails' by my local Petsmart. They come in on the plants there. There is no way to get rid of them unless you a) buy a ton of snail-eating fish, b) find a snail killing product that works really well, or c) completely take apart your tank, replace the gravel, clean out the filter with a filter brush, etc.

I got rid of mine with a very kind betta named Simon. We also have some gouramis that eat them. Good luck!

Yes, yes, a very kind betta ;) lol

Interesting. I thought MTS' were bigger. darn (if that's what they are). Yes, I noticed them more when I first turn on the lights in the morning and yep, they are breeding in my filter media. I should have put my Dwarf Puffers in that tank instead of my Bettas! Thanks for the responses.

 Well, I was sceptical about them actually being MTS' because they are so small, but then I saw this picture....

at http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Bug, Snails, Malaysian Trumpet.htm. There is no doubt in my mind that is what they are. :mad2:

...and to think there was actually a time when I thought I wanted these little buggers to help maintain the substrate in my planted tank!
