Ive found a local hydroponics store, but......

Take a look at Chuck Gadd's Dosing Calculator. I think its of the standard internet tools for Planted Folk. I've always found it helpful.

If you enter 1ml for the solution it'll give you a straight amount to add. I usually just mix that up into a few cups of water and add it at my water change. Or you can just sort out what you're adding with whichever recipe, make adjustments as needed. Too much nitrate, not enough potasssium. Helps with the tinkering.

You can make separate mixes, combomixes. Sort out what you need.

Excellent. That calculator is awsome, and makes things so much easier! Im gona pick up KN03, KH2P04, and K2S04 and make 3 seperate 500ml bottles for better control.

One last thing though(i know it never ends :D ) . I bought a bottle of Seahcem Flourish today for micro nutrients such as MG, iron, etc..... How much of this should i add daily in ml? Will overdosing micros do any harm...algae?

Thanks a bunch guys. Cant wait till my C02 and light by the end of this week. Ill be sure to get some pics up within a few weeks after some better growth!!

Definitely mix them up seperately, it allows you better control over the amounts of each fertilizer you dose so you can tweak the levels in your tank to just the right amount.

Since you're dosing KNO3 and KH2PO4 you probably won't need to dose and KCl or K2SO4. The first two will provide ample K unless you have a very heavy fish load.

For the micros, follow the instructions on the bottle. Tom Barr sais that he doses much heavier on traces than most and gets no algae. Chuck Gadd suggests that hair algae is from an excess of iron. I'm siding with Tom Barr on this one. I had a hair algae outbreak in the fall, cut back traces, nothing, cut back feeding, way back, bingo, no more hair algae. So I'm going to say that no, excess traces won't cause algae, but there are limits to all things, many of the traces become toxic in higher concentrations, so follow the bottle.

If you're mixing your traces from solid, I mix 1tbsp. in 125mL water and dose about 3mL every 2 days. I alternate trace and macro dosing, works well since my tank brings NO3 down by about 5ppm in 2 days and cuts PO4 by about half as well.

You can add straight to your tank, but as Blinky so wisely put it, it's best to dissolve them first. One good example is Mg. If you find a need to dose Mg, you'll probably notice on the dosing calculator that an MgSO4 solution becomes saturated before you can make a solution with a convenient dose, so you add it straight to the tank. I have a dollar store measuring cup that I use for stuff like this, add a bit of water, add your ferts, stir, add to tank.

Ok, ill try adding 2ml a day of traces since the bottle suggest 5ml twice per week. As for the K2SO4, im just gona keep some handy in case i find potasium is low. I wont dose regularily with it.
