I've got BBA UGH

Yes you can kill it all its not easy but it can be done follow the steps I supplied and you will be fine it may take 2 or 3 times but it will be gone.

Hey fishy as i posted in your profile.. The cause of the bba here is most likely the low co2 supplied by the diy method. From personal experience when my co2 mix was already getting old I had a bad outbreak of bba on wood but nothing on plants. As I ignored the issue more the bba spread to some slower growing plants like ferns/anubias.. I caught this on fast and simply plucked the bba off the plants (actually came off easy) I then recharged my diy co2 mix and within 2 days the algae decreased. You can also try manually plucking it off the plants/wood/stones while you are waiting for the co2 level to increase once more..

How are you diffusing the co2? do you know your current level?
How long are your lights on?

To clean plants of algae, fill a 5g bucket with water and add a 1/4 cup of bleach. Pull the plants out and swish the leaves (ONLY the leaves) in the bleach water. Then rinse them well and put them back in your tank. This will kill the algae completely, but not your plant as long as you are careful and do not get any bleach on the roots. Finish with a 1/2 dose of Prime to be safe.

Check your phosphate levels. Anytime there is an explosion of any type of algae, there is a nutrient inbalance. Remeber that lighting is also considered a nutrient. Once you have BBA algae, its virtually impossible to irridicate even with an entire tank breakdown. It will come in on plants from the LFS, with fish, etc. You need to keep it under control. Some excellent advice has been given already. To add with my suggestion to check your phosphates and get them under control if need be, invest in some siamese algae eaters..they love the stuff.

1st thing to cure the problem is to get your water chemistry fixed. you have not given us you fert regiment. you need to stick to doing this on a regular basis what ever you use liquid or dry.

bump up your co2 levels asap.

You must kill the BBA fixing the cause will not get rid of BBA

there are two ways to get rid of BBA a 72 hr complete black out which means cover the tank completely no light at all. This can work not a 100%. combine this with excel dosing with a syringe directly on to the BBA will cure it.

the other is to double dose for 14 days the recommended dose on the bottle will also cure it. (faster if you can dose this right on the BBA with a syringe)

after you cure the BBA cut your photo period down to 8hrs till you get the balance back off light co2 and fertz.

Good Luck BBA can be very frustraiting and hard to get rid of

Will my Valesneria and Narrow Leaf Swords be ok with a 72 hour black out? I don't want to hurt my plants.

This **** is growing like crazy on my Val's and driftwood.
I'm going to ditch my DIY CO2 system after I get rid of this stuff.

Your plants and animals will be OK even with a longer black-out (100hrs).

Started my Black out just now, I will post after 3 days and give results. :perv:

I did a 8 gallon water change and added a cap full of Excel then covered the tank with garbage bag and 3 layers of bed sheet
