That my hornwort plants are kinda a faded green. They look dead but they are growing. I left the flexible metal band around the bottom of the plants so they can get rooted. Does that metal effect the plant?

Also my substrate is a gravel/sand mixture. Any info is appreiated!

I understand that hornworts don't (or don't like to) root but prefer to float, absorbing nutrients right from the water. Thus, weighted down, they may not do as well as you hope. I did get a nice bunch once that were banded together at one end and looked cool as a thick background plant, but they drifted apart eventually and didn't live in total more than 2-3 months, if that. I'm glad they're a fairly cheap plant, but it's sad to lose anything, particularly when it breaks up and winds up at the intake sieve :( I hope yours does okay.

Nolapete: I have standard lighting from a 55 gallon starter kit. I also add plant gro by hagen to my tank every day(about 5-10ml).

DebbyS: Thanks for the concern. And I never thought about floating the plant, so I may just let it loose and hope for the best.

thanks all
