HI, I just bought two ivory snails at petsmart. They are dime size and are pure white. They have perfect shells. I had my pick from 20 or so. The price $1.99 ea. No shipping charge. I like seeing what I'm getting before I pay. In all fairness to AC, I have bought a lot from AC and have been very happy with my purchases. I'm only saying that petsmart is a good source as well. Yeah- my local Petsmart has yellow, ivory and blue.
Superpetz have yellow and "black".

I'm going to get mine online (when I get them) though due to the variety in colour. I like the purple and magenta one's best and I've never seen a chain sell those colours.

Plus, although I know "in theory" how to tell a brigg from a less plant-friendly relative (90 degree angle between swirls) I'm no expert and could make a mistake...

I trust more that I'm getting a true bridgesii from trusted members online than I do from Petsmart (where I've noticed fish mislabeled before... so no doubt snails could be too).

I'd hate to get a yellow "Bridgesii" and find out the next day that my bacopa has become salad. Petsmart may be safe... but I trust a number of people online more.

I think Ivory's are almost definately Briggs and safe though because I don't think other apples come in such a wide variety of colour... don't know though.

Well, in my experience, I have 36 or more briggs. I bought one gold from Petsmart. It never grew, and after a couple of months, unexpectedly and unexplainably died.

I have not lost any adult briggs that I have bought from members, not to mention the difference in color. I would rather pay shipping and have a snail that I am SURE is healthy, than take a chance on another one from a big box store. The stores don't know how to care for them and don't know how to feed them, and our members do.

Probably hard to draw a solid conclusion from one snail... but still- going rate here by most sellers for a brigg seems to be $3.

For the extra $1 it's worth the peace of mind. IMO. Still, there is shipping too- which adds to the price (unless you just add the snail onto another purchase you are getting online which is what I intend to do).

Still, I'm sure some petsmarts have better conditions for snails than others.

Good luck with your snail purchase!

I have bought snails from petco. but by far the healthiest and best looking ones came from members here.
My mother claims she's seen all colors at walmart but I don't beleive it. I've only seen black and gold there.

Congrats on the find.:thm: Your little guys should grow up nicely as long as you make sure to feed them a varied diet high in calcium. Occasionally you get lucky and have people working in a big box that really know what they are doing and how to take care of the fish and inverts. Sounds like your Petsmart just may be one.

Waiting to see pics of your new babies!:grinyes:

I got both my blue snails from walmart :P They are healthy and growing. I've seen yellows, ivories, blues and blacks at walmart at petsmart. But if i wanted something like purple or jade I would have to buy them here. Just depends on what you are looking for

my wallyworld only sells fish no snails or plants
