i have a pair consisting of 1 regular jd female and 1 electric blue jd male and i have seperated her and fattened her up and she is now digging in her tank where she is alone. my question is weather i should put her back in the tank with the male or move the male into her tank? i think she may be conditioned enough at this point i just dont know which way to move them....any advice would be awesome.

the tank sizes are both 55 gallon long, these 2 are already paired and have bred in the past but there was an arguement after that and he nearly beat her to death and it has been about 7 months since the beating and 9 months since they had fry. aprox sizes are 6.5"-7" for the male and about 5.5 for the female
mainly the problem since the fighting are that she is extremely shy now and barely even comes out to eat....but when they were last together she would come out to visit with the male whenever he swam by then he would try to court her and it would escalate until he eventually scared her back into her spot which he cannot fit into.
Either put a divider with a slot that she can fit through that he can't or put a piece of pvc pipe that she can get in but he can't.
Regardless of what you do, put a divider up first. I suggest eggcrate. I've seen cichlids spawn through the eggcrate without having to remove it. Put him in her tank.

I agree with the above, I'd definitely make sure you have a divider, at least when you first introduce them. As you male is bigger it makes sense to put him into her tank.
I have the opposite problem to you! As my male EBJD and female normal are evenly matched (in size), she kicks his *** every time, so they're currently separated by a barrier and she has a normal male (much bigger) in her half to keep her on her toes (she doesn't like him).
I'm hoping this will give my blue male a chance to get bigger than her and therefore have a better chance of being accepted as a mate and breeding with her. I also figure that she'll be less aggressive from having to be submissive to the big normal male most of the time.
