Has anyone housed these awsome catfish. If so what was your tanks setup and where they aggressive? How did they eat and what where they like thanks. Im looking to buy one
Usually kept at least 18" deep tank (40 G breeder or larger)with close to neutral & soft to mederately hard water. I would not call it aggressive but just simply carnivorous.
It has been too long since I kept few but recall keeping them with other similarly sized cats (lima, tiger shovel, rafaels, pimelodus, etc) w/o problem but can be more territorial than other compatible cats, especially in well aquascaped tank which provide nice niche called home for him/her.
Its a beautiful fish and if memory serves, eggs are fertilized internally before laying them.
Enjoy.
Most catfish keepers complain the reason of rehoming theirs is because they NEVER SEE THEIRS once its in the tank.
If youre going to get one for a showpiece its not a catfish that will show itself. I have those guys and they're cool however I see more reclusive plecos more though
seen some at a lfs in St. Louis 5" long for $65
Im not worried about it hiding its a cat. And thats what most cats do. I am wondering If he will eat my Emerald Cory Cats?
Also What did you feed yours and how did you present the food.
I would not keep them with emrald cory/any cors for cory's sake as well as Jaguar's sake.
Trying to remove stucked cory cat out of predator's mouth is not fun!!! I wonder what others will say about stress factor during this procedure???
Give them subdued lighting over bright lighting if you want to see them out more often.
I dont think you will have problem with feeding. They should eat any foods, live, fz. chunks of beef/pork/chicken/fish.
Would not do fine flakes as it can be pretty meshy. Stick to chunky/duro flakes if posible instead of fine flakes buyt not as main diet
