I've got a 30g tall that's been up and running for a week and a half now. Bak-Pak 2 skimmer and a powersweep. I've got 2 perculas and a damsel for cycling, 20 pounds LR, and 40 pounds sand. There's already a ton of brown algae growth all over rock and sand and a little on glass. I was wondering how soon I could throw some hermits or peppermint shrimp in there to clean up the place. I'm gonna get some snails today, maybe a couple turbos, but I figured I would ask. Thanks.

Test results?

Brown algae is fairly common in new setups, and while you can add some cleaners now, since the tank is cycling you'll need to acclimate them more gradually. If you still have ammonia .5 ppm or more, I'd hold off--inverts can be sensitive to it.

All my levels are good. I haven't been worrying about checking Nitrates yet because it's a new setup. How do hermits do during cycling? Peppermint shrimp?

I also have a 30 g that i started about 5 months ago the guy i deal with gave me his filter from his reef tank and it basically cycled my tank almost instantly i came across the same exact problem you have I told the guy and he told me to try some denitrate to help with the algea and put it in my fluval. he also advised me to try some turbo snails. i bought 2 turbos, a cleaner shrimp, and 2 peppermint shrimp. now my tank looks spotless and crystal clear I also started using B-Ionic and my coraline is going crazy and everything is just perfect.
