Why are bettas considered japanese fighting fish when they originated from Thailand? Plus the Japanese don't even recognize a betta when they saw one?

I've never heard of Japanese Fighting Fish and I agree, the common name known by most is Siamese Fighting Fish.

I think You'll find some reference to Japanese fighting fish..but they are more commonly referred to a Siamese Fighting fish or simply Betta.

More to the point..One of the people in those links is a moron. Beyond getting the name wrong....
Explains why a tiny bowl is bad and then proceeds to buy one for what seems like a silly experiment. If you stick a betta into a tiny bowl, what sort of entertainment are you are expecting?. That the betta will suddenly take up juggling and perform when fed?. Talk up setting up failure in fishkeeping.

Also this person needs to be stuck an empty closet where they can barely take a few steps any direction with a window and be told to act entertaining.

Take a trip to the red light district in Amsterdam, the girls in the windows all look happy.

And why wouldn't a Japanese person recognize them, I'm sure they sell them there too. Do you recognize and able to label every fish that is native to your country?

I think the point was that Japanese don't recognize the name "japanese fighting fish"(at least the ones the poster talked to)
which is understandable as we see it as "saimese " fighting fish. or Betta.

I think while it has some reference to 'Japanese' Fighting fish..it is more commonly known as Siamese Fighting fish and Betta(splendens) bottom line..somewhere along the lines someone made a BOO-BOO:huh:
