I am going to start boiling some shells tomorrow and was just thinking these would look COOL with java fern growing on them anyone done this before. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If anyone has some thoughts on this let me know.

If anyone has done this and has a photo please post. I will be using narrow leaf java fern.

I have java fern on a coconut (not the narrow leaf though), but the tank lights are off right now. Let me hunt my full tank pics and see if I can isolate it big enough or else I'll try to remember to get a picture tomorrow.

edit.... ok well here it is, but you can't really make out the coconut, it's just a big dark mass under the java fern and behind the crypt.

So the coconut shells do they change the water chem at all?
Are they totally safe to use in freshwater tanks?
Dont they rot? How do you prepare one? clean it out, boil it? Is that all?
I would sure like to try one, I seen one at the LFS in the crab section, and thought about it, but was afraid to try...

This will be my first time to try them but am sure they work like everyone said in other websites. I have had customers tanks with them and have never had any problems. Just never had a customer use them in a planted tank. Thanks for the picture.
