Java Moss and lighting

yes. it does depend on the light and the spectrum, but too much light will burn java moss. also java fern. you can actually have a very nice planted tank with java moss/fern with never turning your lights on, but just enough for you to enjoy them. that's what i do sometimes. I'm in the navy so i buy plants/fish hearty enough for my wife to takecare of while i'm away. and so far so good!
Probablly more than you will give it. Java moss can live in anything from low to high light. With the right light it becomes very pretty IMO
I'm running 2 6500k 36 watt, power compact. prolly going to add 2 more 3 foot no fl "life-glo or like that
They might tend to get stunted and grow like a Brillo pad.

I have java moss in a high light tank and it grows like algae, very fine and very green. I do not add fertilizers or anything to the tank, only 36 watts of 6500K compact fluorescent overan 8 gallon tank. I try to keep green water in this tankso the spectrum and intensity is diminished by the time the light gets down the water column to the moss.
My other tanks are pretty standard 2 watts per gallon, the java moss and java ferns both grow quite well in medium light, well fertilized CO2 injected tanks.
IME, high light is fine so long as you have some hornwort, duckweed, or other floating plants to reduce the intensity on the java plants. Try to keep the java plants deep in the tank and not right at the surface, this also helps cut the light intensity as well.
