Hey!

I have noticed my Java moss is losing a little color, could it be from all the gunk it had on before I washed it?

No Co2, ferts from fish as of now, light is .85 (going to upgrade) wpg.

Tank is 20 gal.

I know I am not much help but I thought I would mention that I had a large bunch of java moss live in complete darkness for 3 months in a bucket. I took it out of the tank and forgot about it. I gave it to a friend who put it in her tank and its doing fine.

Yeah Java Moss can "live" in horrid conditions but more light (2-3+wpg) will make it that bright green you want.

i washed my moss several times before to remove the "gunk" that was on it.. not much color change, if anything cut it up into pieces and over time new growth will be seen with nice green color, another thing you can do is somehow get the moss higher in the tank so that it gets more light

if you cut it up in pieces how do you keep it from going all over the tank? Mine will not stay in place now LOL! as soon as that stupid driftwood is ready, ( now I got more soaking for the tannis removable) and the other to sink, I will be able to tie mine into them. I can not wait! also with the 2 watts per gallon coming tommorow it will look awsome!

Java Moss should be fine at .85. The most likely reason for paling is lack of nutrients in the water column. Also, I use my gravel vac to remove the "gunk".

there are a few things you can handle the cut up pieces.. What i did was cut them into 1/2" pieces and place them evenly on a piece of slate for my slate wall.. then took a cotton thread and went over and over and over the slate until the moss would stay.. a few weeks later its actually growing good and is trying to reach for the light..
Heres the best pic i got so far..

another option is making a moss wall and then wrapping the moss wall around a piece of wood/stone

see I love the moss wall. thats what I want to do!! I am so excited about my lights coming so that everything will have more light. and thats is cool what you did, I did not know it stuck to slate. I had it tied to a decoration last year and it never did stay put, or cling to it.

not sure if its actually holding on to the slate but i think over time it will cling on to the pores in the slate and hold itself.. but for now the cotton thread is holding it and you can barely see it through the moss..
