my java moss grew into my gravel and took hold of it, and it isn't growing very fast, maybe doubled in the past 2 months. you could make a carpet out of it if you wanted, but it does catch a lot of stuff in it and that looks bad, and pieces of it do float away and get messy sometimes. i just don't think it would look as good as some of the other carpet plants, but it could be done.
