Java moss/fern roots?!?

Hi, this may sound like a retarded question but are the roots of a java fern actually java moss? Like if I cut off the roots of a new java fern plant will it grow as a moss?

i dont think so... moss is a rootless plant..... It wouldnt be a root itself.....

nope. java moss has no roots. the roots of java fern is just roots. if you cut them off they die.
