Java moss is ruining my tank!

I don't know the name of the filter it's just the one that came with my tank in a combo pack a few years ago. Still works fine even though some say that they are usually junk. It's is just a regular HOB filter made by REGENT the same company that makes the tank. I hear good things about Aquaclear filter, though.
What filter are you using now?

Thanks for the compliments. Gigi is a pretty boy. :)

lol i like the Poof idea. How long do you think it takes to cover up the mesh? To where all you see if JM, Like your carpet

Well, I've just started those pieces as you can see, the wall and a few of the slate pieces. The java moss will cover it all as with any method(i.e. thread) as soon as it starts to really grow from the strands, as in the strands the you start with have sprouts coming off of them too.

On the already established pieces, the ones that have the most growth, I used thread. Those were from when I first started the carpet idea, and I have since trimmed those to get more moss for the other slate pieces and the wall. Those were before I heard about using the poof ball mesh, I couldn't find any hairnets, so I just used thread.

I think it should take around a month or two, if you have conditions like my tank. Just give it time. I have diy CO2, dose a few trace ferts, and have 2 10 watt compact fluroescents over a 10 gallon.

I have a carpet of moss that completely covers the bottom of my 10g, save a few open spots for my other plants to come out. what you need to do is take out the filter intake and the impeller and clean the moss off, I have to do this about once every other day on average.

hi Sammie7, I have a Petcetera brand hanging filter for 3-10 gallon tanks. It looks almost or exactly the same as an AquaClear hanging...
I don't know why my JM is not really attaching to things. I tied the JM on the driftwood and now it only covers it a tiny bit. I also planted some in the gravel, and there's probably some there now, but there is no hint of a 'lawn' growing at all. Do you know the possibilities that could explain this? I have fertilizer, light and doubt the dripping filter gives too much current =T

What temperature is the tank? Mosses tend to do better in cooler waters. Other than that, java moss tends to be hit or miss for some people with no real explanation why. What kind of light do you have it under? The fertilizers are trace fertilizers? Some times it just doesn't do good for whatever reason.
