Java Moss plant is blooming?

That Java moss looks great...what kind of lighting do you have.....the moss is my 6 gallon eclipse tank(standard lighting) is living but doesnt look nearly that good.

Thank you for the compliment. The moss pictured above is in a 20-high and the light is a single-bulb flourescent that sits on the separate glass top. The bulb came with the fixture 8 months or so ago. I'm assuming it's just a cheap 15 watt bulb, but I don't know without going home and checking.

The moss looked wimpy for a long time--at least 2 months--and has just recently found it's groove and started to look really happy. When I added it in early July it was probably 1/4 the current size.

At the same time I put the plant in the 20-high I also put some in my 5 gallon work tank which has a 40 watt output CF bulb. Most of that bunch died, turned brown and was sucked up during PWC. One or two strands held on and still look pitiful. They have grown to a small clump, but they're still just barely there. I don't know what all I'm doing differently, but it definitely doesn't grow the same in every tank.

None of my plants get special treatment. That's one reason I was so happy to find the Java Moss. No CO2, no fertilizer beyond what naturally occurs with feeding and pooping.

You know, now that I think about it, there is one major difference between the water in those two tanks and it's temperature.

The nice moss from the pictures is in an unheated goldfish tank that stays at room temperature in my heated/AC basement and is generally 72 degrees.

The identical moss I described in the work tank has had episodes of 86+ degrees and commonly stays at 78-80. Maybe it doesn't like that.
