So I've posted before with the troubles I've had trying to grow java moss. I finally got the BBA under control by using excel and everything else in my tank is now going nuts. Example: A couple of months I bought a little rock with some ricca tied to it. It fell apart in the tank with only a little bit floating at the surface and now I have this giant clump that is about to take up half the surface of my tank. Everything else is going nuts too...except the Java Moss.

Every time I put java moss in the tank it turn slowly turns brown and dies. About a month ago I bought a clump larger than a golf ball and now all I have is a tiny little patch left that is green. I so much want it to cover my driftwood.

So my New Years resolution is to get Java Moss to grow, with a little help from you all. :D

A few points:

1) Can Java Moss get to much light? I have 2 CF 65watt lights on a 30 gal tank, which are on 9 hrs a day in a well lit room.

2) Does Excel affect Java Moss? I don't think so because the rest of my plants are doing great. Plus I had the same problem with the moss before I started dosing with excel

3) All my water mesurments are fine. I will post some test tomarow when I have time.

4) I dose every other day with Kent Freshwater plant, Pro Plant, and every day with a capful ( 64 oz bottle) of excel. So I think my ferts are alright.

5) I have Co2 injection.

That's really all I can think of right now but I'm sure with a few responses I'll think of more.

well i grow and sell java moss, in all my tanks it grows like a weed. 1 of them is a semi aquatic that is coldwater. with two mini florescent bulbs. this is my main tank for growing it, and i dont use co2, ferts,or anything it just grows great :). it can grow in almost no light so you should be fine. maybe its the ferts that are messing it up?? cuz every thing else in your tank seems fine. its one of the easist plants to grow IMO.

i hear ya. ive had nothin but bad luck wih java moss. every time i buy some it's nice and green, but soon in my tank it browns on me. i keep my temp in my tank at about 79-80, and i believe this is whts causing the moss to die. i dont have anything to back it up, but ive had the worst luck with the stuff. wht temp do u keep ur tank at?....this is just a guess cause i cant think of any other reason why it would die even though evrything else is growin well. i also put some moss in jar in front of a window....not doin great but doin bettr then the stuff in my tank.

What is the tank temp? Moss likes cooler water temps, something at 74-76 should be okay.
mine is thriving in my 82 degree betta tank.

I don't understand why you're having bad luck.... I simply cannot kill my moss! it grows eveywhere, and carpets the entire bottom and back of my 10G. i'm lucky to have a pleco, a snail and a parakeet who happen to love eating it.

lol guys for killin my only theory for not growin java moss.......i guess the only thing left to ask is, is it actually java moss? tht could explain alot.

Question. I have java moss, too much it seems now. What I want to know is can this stuff go in regular mail? Say, putting it in a ziplock bag then into an envelope and mailing it like that. I don't really have the time, nor the car, to go to the post office. If so, does anyone want some? Any tips for getting it there alive? I'm probably over simplifying things, though. If this method is possible, I could send some to you Trashman Todd.

Yes, it can! The last batch I bought was from ebay and it came in a ziplock bag just fine. You just have to make sure it stays really moist. Or in a bag tied off with some water in it. I would assume the same way the LFS get it shipped to them.
