I'm sure I'll have more than I know what to do with soon. Generosity, I paid five bucks plus shipping for the stuff.Always glad to help though. The stuff grows great for me. What's a few cents for postage? Can I still be considered American now? Not trying to make a buck anyway possible.
Have to go ask my mother for stamps now. Do you think the moss will survive the weather shipping to Pennsylvania and Nevada?
1. that is not too much light for java mossTrashmanTodd said:So I've posted before with the troubles I've had trying to grow java moss. I finally got the BBA under control by using excel and everything else in my tank is now going nuts. Example: A couple of months I bought a little rock with some ricca tied to it. It fell apart in the tank with only a little bit floating at the surface and now I have this giant clump that is about to take up half the surface of my tank. Everything else is going nuts too...except the Java Moss.
Every time I put java moss in the tank it turn slowly turns brown and dies. About a month ago I bought a clump larger than a golf ball and now all I have is a tiny little patch left that is green. I so much want it to cover my driftwood.
So my New Years resolution is to get Java Moss to grow, with a little help from you all.
A few points:
1) Can Java Moss get to much light? I have 2 CF 65watt lights on a 30 gal tank, which are on 9 hrs a day in a well lit room.
2) Does Excel affect Java Moss? I don't think so because the rest of my plants are doing great. Plus I had the same problem with the moss before I started dosing with excel
3) All my water mesurments are fine. I will post some test tomarow when I have time.
4) I dose every other day with Kent Freshwater plant, Pro Plant, and every day with a capful ( 64 oz bottle) of excel. So I think my ferts are alright.
5) I have Co2 injection.
That's really all I can think of right now but I'm sure with a few responses I'll think of more.

TrashmanTodd said:"You have pressurized CO2? How is it delivered? How many bps are you injecting? How many ppm are you getting in your tank? IMO CO2 injection is the key to growing luch java moss. Though java moss can grow in the crappiest of situations, the prettiest, green, lush mosses flourish with pressurized CO2. If you are injecting CO2, why are you dosing excel?"
Right now I'm at about 1 bps. It is delivered through a system I bought from fosters & smith. It's own pump, and bio ball defuser. It's pretty much self contained.
The reason I started using excel was to help get rid of the BBA which it worked. I still have little patches but they are not growing or spreading. So I keep dosing with it. Plus I noticed my plants seemed to get a extra little boost with the excel.
I'm at a fine line right now between my ph, kh and co2, amd it seems with the excel i can keep the co2 down and my ph is a little easier to keep stable. I don't know if this is the right way to do it but for right now it's working.
I'll do some test on the levels and post them in the next couple of days. It's a little hard right now though. Being a Trashman, this is the busiest time of the year for us. I just got home after a 13 hour day, just enough time to feed the fish and go to bed. :thud:
