Java moss

heh i just got home after searching the local target and shopping mall for some hair net or mesh with no luck.

Bought two nice bags of christmas and taiwen moss from aquaticplantcentral, and am in the same boat trying to figure out how to make them into a nice carpet. i did find some plastic sewing mats with holes in them. So will probably just lay the moss on them flat, then wrap it with fishing lines.

How much light does it need? (best I can find is "low" which really doesn't qualify anything... I've only got 0.6 wpg on my tank right now (the lights that came with it) so I don't know if they're bright enough) What are the co2 requirements for it? (can't find anything at all about it) I like the natural look it gives things, and I want to give it a shot... but I want to be semi-informed about my decision before going ahead and doing it.

I don't want to seem rude here, but can someone please answer my earlier questions? I'm still not finding much by yahoo or google searching it, and I'd like to hear from people who have actually kept the stuff, not just some info site that was designed as a highschool project for a computer class.

I've read that low is up to 1 WPG. Moderate is 2 WPG, and bright is 3 WPG or higher. I don't remember where I got that.

Keep in mind that the WPG rules were developed with a certain type of bulb (T-12 standard flourescent) so it doesn't always apply to other kinds of lights. There are also rough conversions for T-8's and probably power compact, etc. floating around. Also, tank depth comes into play.

I just wanted to give you a quick answer. Hopefully someone can link you to a specific site that will answer your questions. Good luck! :)

The bulbs I have are T-12's, 2 24" 15w bulbs to be more precise. The tank is 18" from the bottom of the tank to the surface of the water, and I've got roughly 3/4 of an inch of gravel in the bottom. I'm debating putting the java moss on the big orange branch in my tank. (check out the pictures I posted in the "rate the above person's tank" section)
