Java fern, I just got a nice sprig of this today and wanted to make sure to do what it needed in the tank, so what are it's requirements?

Also, what do you do with Java Moss? I got some for free a while ago and I just stuffed it in a corner of the tank, it grew a bit, but really I am unsure of what to do with it. Does anybody have any ideas?

Java fern likes to be attached to driftwood or rocks, requires very little light, grows very slowly, but will propogate and grow easily.

java moss will cling to anything IME and grows anywhere. it can be used for ground cover, will attach to driftwood and rocks, will attach to your other plants, will attach to your filter sponges, ryour heater, your intake tube etc. I really like Java moss but it can be invasive despite the fact that it grows slowly. I cut and dispose of a lot of this stuff, and I've only been growing it for about 3 months.

I really like java moss. I have a piece of driftwood covered with it, and it looks really good when it gets trimmed. like a lawn kind of.

My java moss is a fast grower that requires a fair bit of maintenance. It does best when spread apart so the light can get to all of it. If you just leave it in a big clump it won't grow well and may go brown and start to die.

I tie my java ferns to rocks or wood with elastic bands. Then I just cut the band off after a few weeks when the fern is solidly attached.

Both are extremely hardy and difficult to kill.

Thanks. My java fern was already attached to a rock when I got it. I think that I will place the moss over the wood I have in the tank. So that it will attach itself to something.

In my betta tank I used java moss to cover up the box filter that I use. Now it is just a pile of moss with bubbles coming from the top.
