Interesting you should say that, Delco. My JD recently went on a 4 or 5 day fast of his own. He's done it several times in the past, and he always comes out of it just fine. Two days ago he started eating again, and he is as big a pig as he ever was. I figured this was just part of his own quirkiness, or maybe a hint that my water quality wasn't up to par, but maybe this is normal behavior?

As far as the sand, it is a pain to clean as you can't go with the normal siphon method; you have to sift with something like a net.

Another consideration, I have a small tank that I have sand in. I don't have diggers in it but they still manage to churn up the sand. The problem this causes is that the filter then sucks up the sand... no biggie but it gets in to the impeller and it will wear out prematurely. Basically the plastic that butts up to the magnet will wear off more quickly than using a normally rock substrate because then sand acts like a 220 grit sand paper.

Again thanks for the input! I ordered a pair of JD's. Now the the lfs i used wasn't my normal one because they didn't or couldn't order any in for a few weeks and reccommended another store in town! They are 1.5" long, so still babies. I did voice some concernes over haveing a pair, as they might fight, the dude in the shop said it would be ok as they are growing up 2gether, but im still a little worried, Also don't know there gender, he said as this early stage gender is hard to work out. But if it's a male and a female will there be problems? what about 2 males? what about 2 females? Can anyone see any problems here?
While reading i came accross somthing you might want to know, if you use blank substrate then it really brings out there colours!
