I'm trying to save money and buying a lighting hood from
"JEBO/ Oddysey"

found at the following address:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46314&item=4371770604&rd=1

its a 36" long fixture that comes with 2x 96 watt bulbs, 12k and actinic.

Has anyone had any experience with this model/ make? it only cost about 100 dollars. Or do you think i should spend the money and buy a more acredited brand.

What are some good 36" fixtures/ brands that I can get for under 150?

Is a fixture that doesn't come with an external ballast bad?

That fixture looks ok to me, the price is right..But I have heard and read both good and very bad things about Jebo lights...so remember "buyer be-aware" haveing a light with a internal/built in ballast is no problem what so ever...IMO

Good luck, if you want a higher end light do a google search for coralife...they have a good rep..

what does "IMO" stand for? I searched for coralife which also came with an internal ballast.. what about ORBIT, and ECLIPSE?

IMO stands for in my opinion... i have a coralife 36" power compact light and it is absolutely phenominal. i wouldnt have anything else... except maybe some metal halides :dance2:

IMO means "in my opinion." I have used a corallife fixture for a few years, and it was reliable. No experience with the others.

HEY guys, another question

Do you recommend 4 (square pin) or .... pin lights? Any reason?

I was shopping between CoraLife, and JBJ lighting fixtures and was about to buy the Coralife Lunar Aqualite 2x96, 2 moonlight

When I came across a fixture made by CATALINA Aquarium
I did a quick search and came accross this

http://www.aquaworldaquarium.com/marine_reef_aquariums_made_easy.htm

Assuming what I read, Coralife and Catalina are about equal in quality?

you can get both square or straight int he 96 watt bulb from every bulb maker out there.

I have the oddysea light your talking about.. it was shipped broken... nowarrenty on lights the fans are loud as hell and the 14 or 12k color bul is really about 9k and the actinics is a blue colored 98 watt bulb not a true 420nm bulb... you will need to replace both bulbs in my opinion... the 9 watt bulbs normaly cost 30-40 dollars... sooo.... 80 for the light.. 40 to have the light shipped and about 60 for new bulbs... your at 140-180 dollars..

I like hte fixture.. the fan suck I had to replace them (just cpu fans)
there is two switches one is for moonlight the other control the actinic and the other bulb.. there is no way to turn one off and the other on to simulate
dusk dawn without modifiing it...

honestly just bit the bullet and get anouther light..
I have anouther orbit 2 by 96 and it is much better quality.. it was roughly the same price after all was said and done.. there was less hastle in the long run as well. I think I saved 10 dollars total but would have much rather spent the 10 dollars and had the better light without the fuss...

omg duck.... that's exactly what i needed to hear thank you so much. It's so tempting to buy those jebo oddysea lights at HALF The price of name brands... thank you.. thank u..

Has anyone had experience with Catalina aquarium lights?
