Is the Odyssea CFS 4 a good filter? What would be a good price for it?

The Jebo Odyssea is an excellent filter! Jebo is a conglomerate company of Chinese, Canadian and Hong Kong partners with some German ties, and enjoys a relatively good reputation throughout Asia, Canada, Europe, Austrailia, and now in the US.

Their first entries into the US market were mostly with lighting, and they had a few problems with poor quality. Their filters however, are quite good, and some of their models distributed outside the US feature some German components.

The CSF4 is supposedly of German design (most people think it to be a knockoff of the Eheim Pro II series). It has four media baskets with handles, shutoff valves, hoses, spraybar and intake, course filter pad, fine filter pads, ceramic media, ammonia chips, and activated carbon all included with the filter.

The claimed flow rate is 317 gph (that's without any media), and with media installed a realistic flow rate of approximately 160-170 gph will be realized. The large priming pump button is easy to use, and the motor is very quiet. Getting the filter started for the first time or restarted after maintenance is very simple and consistent.

This filter is marketed under various names such as Jebo, Odyssea, Newport, Lifetech and a few others. It comes in two colors variances that I know of, Eheim Green and silver.

I have many canister filters around here of varying capacity and brand to compare with, and the Jebo Odyssea CSF4 is my favorite and filter of choice. It's easy to assemble, clean, and maintain.

The filter can be had through several eBay vendors and from the Aquatraders.com website for less than $40+shipping. My cost for shipping two of these units from Aquatraders.com to Southern CA is less than $20.

Many will tell you only buy Eheim because some Eheim filters have been in use for a decade or more. However the Jebo filters have been in use for 3-4 years with no problems by many users in other countries, and that's testimony enough for me. Especially for only 40 bucks.

I highly recommend this product, although there are competing filters from Jebao (another Chinese company)who make and market some other Eheim type clones including the Via Aqua filters, that are quite good as well. However, the Jebo filter is by far the most bang for the buck, and without question the best filter value available.

WARNING!!! Please note, this filter comes with a cryptic instruction set on the side of the box. It comes with no formal instruction manual, so some previous knowledge of canister filters and related plumbing would be advisable.

I agree, I also just got an odyssea csf4 and it is great. I also have an xp3. Setup was simple and the push to prime feature is easy. Also, this is quieter than my filstar. The filstar's output is more but not by much! But for $58.90 delivered you can't go wrong.

Really depends on what kinda media is in it, and what the stockage on the tank is, if you have barely anything in there, you'll need to clean it alot less compared to having a ton of fish in the tank. I'd change carbon every two weeks, and clean sponges at that point to...

I just received my second CSF4 Canister 2 days ago. And I feel like a kid in X-mas. They are great filters, specially for $40. I got them set up on a 100g and is looking beautiful. Love the performance and looks of the filter and the huge baskets.

After reading this site and a few others I got a Jebbo CFS4. This is my first canister so I am not sure if all canister are this way or not but I am not totally impressed. First the intake dumps into the top of the canister then the water is pulled down throw the medium to the up take tube which in reality is molded into each medium basket. I put some small leave pieces into the uptake tube to see what would happen and low and behold they showed up in the spray bar which indicates to me that the uptake was not sealing well and drawing water off the top or water was breaching around one or more of the baskets. I was going to send it back but just found out that my boy needs knee surgery (may boy is a Male Black Lab) so I can't really spend any more money on a canister.

So deing a handy guy I decided that I could fix this problem. I took some 3/4 CTS, which is basically the same as PVC but has a smaller O.D. and I.D. The CTS is a little more $ then PVC also. Anyway I took the 3/4 pipe and with a little sanding found that it fit nicely into the impeler housing and by cutting it to a lenght just below the last basket I basically made a sealed outflow tube from the bottom of the canister to the top so now the pump has to pull water off the bottom. The next problem I noticed is the inflow is smashed into the top basket cover and it seams that most of the flow is moving downward in a small area, I am not quite sure how to get the flow to move eavenly through the pad or made I don't need to worry because as one spot gets to gunked up the water will start to flow through a different area, I don't know, and only time will tell.

Also I found that 1/2 CTS make a great spray bar material as the I.D. is smaller then PVC, about the same size as the spray bar that came with the filter.

Several people on another forum complained about bypass of the media and noise with these filters.
