It does look somewhat artificial and bare. I'd say use some real, tall plants to blend everything together and soften the dominant blue background.

Yea im going to get some tall vallis and some amazon frogbit, maybe some onion plants to.

Yeah, plants will help a ton and the discus will like them. You could hide the artificial elements well with them.

Maj0rFiSh, I had (still have to a degree) the same problem, but it has to do with variety. Check out the height of the plants in your tank. They are very nearly all the same. Also, a few shorties scattered in the foreground would be nice.

I came across a web site (that I cannot find just now) on aquascaping. It showed three basic designs. One design was the angle, where the taller plants are to one corner and decend in height across the tank (but not so much that it looks like you measured ;) ), another was low plants in the middle and taller plants to the left and right. The third was lower plants to the left and right with the taller plants in the middle. Primarily, these designs focused on the background, while graduating plant height from back to front, with shorter plants in the foreground.

I think some taller plants would do the trick... I love the sand though! It look awesome! And of course, so do the discus ;)

I'm new to the planted tank and aquascaping, but from all the different and beautiful tanks I have seen on this forum, I've noticed that that whole "less is more" thing is out. With a lush green backdrop, plants filling in the sides, and some driftwood and nice rock caves, the tanks look amazing! IMHO, I think that the most beautiful tanks are the ones people describe as "jungles."

Look at pictures and see what you like. You will find your flare. Your tank has a lot of potential.

How about the taller plants with some lower ones in the foreground.....AND, a black background instead of blue ? I bet the black will really show off the colors of your fish and the plants as well.

Also, if you had some taller plants that sort of cascade across the top of the water...in the back left corner of the tank..bet that would look nice too.

Not sure you want to stir up that sand any after finally getting it all settled..lol...but....if you graded it so that it is shallower in the center and mounds up a bit on each side and deeper in the back than in front..might add some interest as well too.

You definately need real plants for a discus tank, discus are too sensitive to boot and need some form of nutrient export unless you're performing 10% daily water changes.

Fakus plasticus do NOT compliment those fish either, you need live plants ASAP.
