Job interview tips...

When they ask you

"why do you want to work here?" dont say:
Because I need a job
I just want the discount
My BFF, BF, GF works here...

I was in Management at my last job. While intervirewing people I experienced:

A lady fell asleep during the interview. sitting in a chair across from my desk.

Some guy came for the interview drunk.

Another guy took a nice dress shirt out of his bears jacket pocket, and put it on all wrinkled up... In our lobby and didn't even tuck it in.

A guy took his resume out of his wallet, and handed it to me folded to business card size. It had corrections written in pencil. it had holes in it. things were scratched out. He asked for it back, so I made a copy...

Was offered "Favors" for the position.

I hired a guy who lied during the interview. He called me at 2AM and asked me how to copy and paste in MS Excel... In the interview he said he was an advanced MS Office user. he didnt last long after that.

My advice is simple.

Be professional, dress nice, and dont oversell yourself. Getting a job you're not qualified for will only end in disaster. Try not to be nervous, the person interviewing you is a person too.

Be 15 minutes early, not 30, not 5, 15 minutes. DO NOT be late.

dont tell the interviewer you know something that you do not. and dont be afraid to ask questions if you dont understand. Often times being yourself, with a little common sense will get you the job.

I have only had 3 interviews for jobs that werent offered to me.

Nowadays, the job market is so bad that employers can be SUPER extra pickey of who they hire. there are so many people looking for a job, the employers have many potential new hires to choose from. make yourself satnd out, but being exceptional. be the one person that was on time. be the person that wasnt afraid to laugh about something. I have had interviewers try to be funny to see if I would laugh. Be the one person that cane dressed like a professional. Be the one person they remember.

Do I need a resume?
I don't have one and I didn't include one with the application.

Also, I'm gonna take some of my klonopin prior to the interview. it's kind of an experiment but I know I'll fail if I don't so I don't have anything to lose.

I filled out an online application.

I don't know how to write a resume or what to put on it. I've only held two jobs and I didn't really do well at either of them, and I dropped out of beauty school twice... so I kind of felt like the less info the better

another tip that worked for me is to ask questions of them.

usually at the end they will ask if you have any questions.

sitting there with a blank stare does not look good.

research the company on the internet prior so you can ask some good questions.

but make sure they are not about money :) you don't ever want to seem desperate, even though we all are when we are job hunting most of the time..

I would bring a reference resume. More than likely you'll recieve a copy of the online application you filled out to go over and make sure everything is correct. I'm absolutely awful with dates so I'd personally bring a resume just to double check against the application to make sure everything is correct.

It definitely helps. We only half care what's on it if the position you apply for is entry level, like this sounds. I want to see if its spelled correctly, neat and clean and grammatically correct. It will help you come off a little more professional, detail oriented and serious, and you leave something behind that many other applicants may not. That will help set you apart.

That being said, if you don't have time to do it properly, don't do it at all.

Even if there is very little on it (if you had a paper route, were involved at school in some club, heck, you can put down active membership in this forum if you want) if it is neat and clean and professional (and printed on nice quality paper helps too) it bolster your image as neat clean and professional. If you're going to do a rush job last minute- better to go without it. A poorly done resume can highlight flaws and make you look sloppier or dumber than you actually are.

EDIT- I just realized how I wrote that- you know what I meant- not that you are slopy or dumb - just that errors (like the foot in mouth I am attempting to remove) can make you look dumb when you're really not. See?
