Hello friends, I was wondering if anyone has ever kept an electric blue cichlid with a full grown Frontosa over a long period of time. Mine is quite aggressive, but will not get very big (5 inch max). I have seen full grown Fronts with calvus and the tanks seem quite peaceful.

Yeah I agree...its not so much that the johanni will be predated but that their presence will really stress out the fronts. The fronts do much better with peaceful/slow moving tank mates - like calvus. Mbuna are not a good matchgenerally....although you do hear of people keeping labs successfully with 'em.

...Then there were the pics (different forum) of the yellow Lab with several large bites taken out of it by a front. Apparently they had lived together for some time, then the front turned on the Lab. It must have been too large to be swallowed whole. It's not too uncommon among any mixed cichlid species to have an unexpected outbreak of violence.

yeah a long time ago in my many years of fish keeping i had a small group of fronts in an mbuna setup they drilled the fronts before they could say swim, pretty much great advice i wouldn't do it..

Thanks guys. They are getting along pretty well right now and are under constant supervision. The little blue guy protects his personal space, but does little to persue or attack the other fish once they move away. The blue guy is a pig and my little Front eats pretty good too. I will keep a close eye and separate them into different tanks if aggression becomes prevalent at any point.

I have 2 questions, Mike:
1) What is the size of the tank where those 2 fishes are?
2) Are they the only fishes in that tank? I think yes, but just want to be sure.

Dont fronts like their own company? I've read you should keep Fronts in groups so they are happy. :)

The tank is a 60 gal (temporary until my 125 is ready) since posting this question it has changed in inhabitants. Please refer to my new post later today I am going to update everyone with a big new development. The title will be "New Africans 805".

Thanks for all your kind comments!
