Journey's journey into SW Aquaria

Richard at TBS should start a thread here...
Im amazed at the level of service you got from him!
From what ive seen, you can't get better rock.. all the LR around here is base rock quality, and to take the time to follow up on your posts, and even respond to my comments.. what a great guy!
if i could afford it, i would definately order from him.. unfortunately even the shipping is more than i can afford right now, so i have to make my own rock from crushed oystershell.
i wonder if he would mail the bacteria he sent you... i could help seed my rock with it, and maybe order some LS and CUC from him...when im ready..
Im filling up the 225 plywood tank now *crosses fingers and hopes it holds*

Wow, hadn't read most of this thread till now.. how do I place an order. ;) I have never seen live rock that looked that good, not even mine after 5 years. Wonder how a shipment would go all the way to cali.. can be done via overnight.. but wow.. expensive. I am only looking for around 50-60# myself.

California is easy...about $60 per 100 pounds..

Awesome, thanks! I will be placing an order at the end of the month when my new tank comes in. $60 is not bad at all for shipping, I was expecting double that for 50lbs..

Hitchhiking porcelain crab

I love porcelain crabs and hoped to buy one for my tank eventually. Lo and Behold, while staring at my rock...there is a baby porcelain crab just filtering away!! The fun never ends!!! How cool is that! He hitchhiked in my live rock!

Caulerpa Crab

There is another really neat crab gifted to my tank by Richard at TBS...a caulerpa crab. I had never even heard of this guy. Well, he shows up and starts pulling caulerpa off the rocks to decorate himself. He's super active and really fun to watch as he is all over the tank. Tonight, he runs up to the top of the rock pyramid, stands in front of the powerhead and HANG-GLIDES down to the bottom of the tank. Then...he does it again! Like its a ride!!

My husband and I have been talking about how much we love all of our critters and how they each have such unique personalities. Before, I was planning to stock inverts around the corals, fish I wanted. Now, I plan to stock around my inverts.

Even when I added the shipping into the cost of the rock it was STILL cheaper than what my LFS was charging for what you typically see as live rock. I think Richard should rename his product...like "Life on rock" because "live rock" really doesn't describe it.

Cuke question

I think my cukes are in love. They are all cuddled up together. My question is...why aren't they in the substrate?? They are eating off the rock instead.

I was reading that some cukes don't have guts when you get them so are unable to digest food. The theory is that during shipment they get spooked and puke up their guts (some are toxic, these are not). I'm proud to say that mine have their guts intact. I know from the cuke poo I saw today. Hooray.

Ask Richard to be sure on this but with my LR the shipping weight was not the same as just the weight of the rock I ordered because there was water and packaging etc that was added in. So, just so you are not startled. My second half of my shipment was 30lbs LR, all of my CUC, and all of my extras and it came to 110lbs shipped. I think this added like 5 $ to what I expected so no big hoo-haa...especially when I saw all of the extras! Most places have a flat rate for anything under 100lbs and then add a little per every pound above that.

Figure the rock weight, then double that to allow for water weight...IE 50 pounds of rock will weigh about 100 pounds with water on it...
