My sea cucumber just threw out his intestines. I've been able to siphon most of the debris out of the tank but don't know what to do now. Please respond in the forum above. I appreciate all ideas...I'm worried.

More on the Cuke...he is filling back up with water. Only inhabitants that are acing a little unusual are the feather dusters...could be a result of tons of micro bubbles that started up...I hope so anyway.

so you got him?...sweet!... i wonder what the LFS would give ya for that...did he live?
Sadly, the beast did not make it. My husband and I pulled his rock out and tried to bait him out, then tried to siphon him out, then tried to use water pressure to get him out. To no avail. We had to use the boiling water in the hole technique. He died instantly. He was a big guy...2.5 inches or so.
Oh... My... God... Ummm... I was actually thinking of going with Drs F&S. Now... Free plug Richard. Best way to discuss situations/options? On the board might be a good idea too. And can we get this man his own forum?

He also checks out this forum sometimes. I think it is a great idea to start a forum for him...check it out with the mods to be sure it is okay... I started a "debate" thread about starting a tank the TBS way vs the traditional way but it hasn't got a lot of debate yet.
I love my tank. I hope nothing dies! Today I watched a baby crab attack another baby crab to take over his den. It was sooo cool. Then I watched the peppermint crab cleaning the hitchhiker clam...it was sooo cool. Then I watched a worm drop out of a hole and pick up a piece of gravel to stick to his little den. It was sooo cool.
The cup corals are getting bigger and look really pretty at night. The fish is doing well...the sea cucumber looks like he is still trying to recover from losing his innards. The anemone has finally found his "spot" and is being still for the time being.
I was creating The Conscientious Aquarist and read that the sponges I have are perfectly fine in a tank and he gave instructions about their care. This was a relief since everywhere else I read that sponges were definitely going to die and there was no hope. He said that the particular species TBS sent are the most hardy so at least I've got a chance!

Correct, many sponges are very hard to keep, but the Gulf is a very turbid and constantly changing environment.
The temperature can go as low as 51 in the winter time, and 93 in the summertime, so what lives here is very hardy.
The sponges I sent you will usually last about a year or more, some do better than others in the long run. Feeding sponges is tough as they are filter feeders, and trying to target them is difficult as you will end up overfeeding the tank. So best way is to enjoy them while you have them, they will feed on their own.
But I do have some customers who still have their sponges and they have doubled in size, so you never know!
And things will die/be eaten in your tank, is a normal thing, remember this is the ocean, everything eats everything else!
Is just the nature of the wild.

My shrimp and crabs had a nice little feast of my clam just today! I agree, there is a natural cycle and it is so interesting to watch. It's like the discovery channel in our room.
The red "bathtub" sponge is doing phenomenally well...it is growing and we can see it eating the marine snow we put in. The red tree sponge is doing great too and little tentacles come out at feeding time. The orange one is harder to tell...he looks like he may have a thin coat of clear stuff on him. We'll see!
We turn off the filters for an hour and leave on the powerheads when we feed. Hopefully this helps.
