hi everyone, I just bought my first koi for my pond and today when I went to go check on it, I found it on the ground. It seemed like something spooked it and he jumped out. Is this normal for a koi to do this? I put him bak in the water but I dunno if he will last.

lotsa reasons for a jump... are your fish acting like something is constantly hurting them? when is the last time you stuck your finger into the pond? water prams plz...

things we're gonna need to know...

pond size
water parameters (ammonia nitrites nitrates pH hardness etc)
filtration
how long has the pond been set up before you tried to stock it?
is the pond in an open area where predatory animals can access it?
what area of the country do you live in?
does the pond get direct sunlight/shade, etc?

Well I can't measure the water params rite now, but I do no tht the pond has been set up for abt 6 months, and I already have one shubunkin and ten mosquito fish ( started off with 2). It is in an open space, and I live in southern California. It is under partial shade. I haven't lost any fish so far, but I have seen some cats prowling around my house. I always scare them off when I c them though. The koi is still about 3 inches long, so I have it in my quarantine pond, which is about 40 gallons. Will transfer it to my 1000 gallon if all seems well. I'll get bak to u guys once I test my water.
