last night i bought 6 neon tetra's when i put the bag in the tank to get the water levels rights i also put a little bridge in. After 5mins i put the lid on went out of the room for 30mins and came back i couldnt find me male swordtail so i looked on the floor and found him under the computer in a pile of dust.
I put him in a bag of tank water and then put him back in the tank but he kept passing out and i nudged him with the net and he came back to life. he seems to be swimming a bit better now and he is eating, i was just wondering if there is anything else i can do??

Cant believe i have a suicidal swordtail...........

bad water

He was temp stressed, or chlorine, or something, next time acclimate better. did you dump traveling bag contents into tank? Too much ammonia, net new fish then add to tank after floating for temp adjustment. I like to use a plastic bowl that floats so they don't panic at seeing the tank but not begin able to swin through.

Jumpers need to be moved through the water to get oxygen to the gills. Grab tail and gently pull backwards to force water into gills. Or put fish over airstone in net or breeder net.

Swords can be jumpers, I have had this problem in the past. I usually will keep a nice growth of hornwort on top of the water to help prevent jumping. I am not sure if some are easliy spoked by lights or people walking in the room. They just get nervous and jump, But the best cure is a top for your tank. I would suggest picking up a glass top.

mine jumped all the time, even with a hood. they usually jumped at night when I was sleeping and I couldn't save them. the males more than the females. you're lucky to have caught him in time!
