Personally .... I would take that money and invest in making a DIY setup.

Just my opinion of course.

I started out using that system but determined it to be pretty ineffective. That's when I discovered the DIY method. Been using DIY ever since (at least until I upgrade to pressurized)

James0816,
Please tell us about your success with the DIY yeast method.
I never really was succesful in getting any CO-2 readings in tanks I used it.
Also, the sugar/yeast/water mix petered out in about 8-10 days without producing noticable results. Thanks.

If you want a commercial CO2 kit, I highly suggest using this:
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754083
It's basically DIY CO2 but packaged into a more attractive setup.

I tried the fizzy tabs, found them to be worthless. The kit above has gotten good reviews from various sources. Depending on what you're growing, it may not need CO2, or might be fine with liquid CO2 such as Flourish Excel or API CO2 Booster.

The very first bottle of diy co2 I made was very successful.

All attempts since, whether for other tanks or refills will not fizz/bubble/do squat unless I pick the whole setup up and shake it violently. This also makes a mess.
And Excel - melts/kills some of my plants and doesn't seem to do squat for the others.

My first bottle though was beautiful, lasted 2 months on a 29g..... *sigh*

do u know how much sugar that needs?

and the pics not very clear, do u know if the bottle hangs on or just sits next to the tank?
I wonder about that every time I see the box at the store lol.

I've never used it (the plants I've chosen don't really need CO2, I am fine with them growing slowly...less work for me!)

It looks like it can do either:

I'm sure the employee would let you open the box and check it out, just ask first :)

Fermentation is a hobby of mine, and not to supply my plants with CO2! I know that when fermenting honey to make mead it's advisable to add a bit of ntrients for the yeast to ensure a complete fermentation. Sucrose would be at least as deficient in the trace elements the nutrient supplies as honey. Yeast nutrient is available from homebrew shops, or a tiny pinch of a dry complete fertilizer like MiracleGro will kick start things as well.

Thanks James,
I am going to try out your recipe and set-up.

P.S. For easier hose to -bottle cap connection, I use the clear plastic connectors that come with packages of airstones. Stays firmly attached in bottle cap once silicon has been added to inside and outside of cap. Easier for hooking up the hose. :)
