I was going to get one of these soon (tuesday). I read stuff on them, so i decided to order one. Anything I should know about them before I get one?

I was going to get these, but was told they would be stressed without an substrate of sand, so I didn't

Which tank are you planning on putting the Jurupari into? There really isn't room for one in either tank w/o a remodeling session.

haha ok dbcb no offense man but honestly I think your next thread should be "What size tank should I get any suggestions?" Because you are by far out of room bro. That 20G was out of room before you even opened the lid to float the red devil's bag. I've seen way to many threads from you about adding more and more fish. You are defeating the purpose behind getting the fish if there's no room for it. Im not bashing man I know you mean good. Just check into more room first , you and your fish both will have much more enjoyment

I have 4 of these wonderful fish. As I am an eartheater fanatic I also keep brasiliensis, surinamensis, balzanii and steindachneri. The jurapari will prefer a tank of at east 4ft with a substrate fine enough to allow them to take it in and expel it through their gills (about 1-3mm). It is too large if they expel it through their mouths. They will readily take pellets such as Hikari, or for good colour use Spectrum. They appreciate bloodworms etc.
The eartheaters are not a solitary fish and do best in small groups (they are never found solitary in the wild unless sick or injured). I keep all my eartheaters in groups of six fish, and they should live happily with other eartheaters or South americans such as Blue Acara. Rockwork and driftwood should be provided but sparingly, as it is more important for them to have room to sift the substrate. Conditions should be as for most South american cichlids, around neutral is fine or slightly acidic. A power filter is a must, as their constant digging will stir up debris.
An excellent book for eartheater is "South American Eartheaters" by Thomas Weidner.

It is going into the 50gal, but the tank specs I have up are not really accurate. The opaline, for one, is gone. As with the angel. I got rid of them both.
I thought on a sunday it would be quicker since no one is working.

The 20 gal is just temporary. The red devil is not living its whole life in a 20 gal.

By the by, I think most people do this from office comps (or at least a large proportion do), and Sunday's family day for most...that's why I thought it a bit unreasonable...the numbers on the forums seem to be down until later Sunday evening (CST).
