Hi all
Just wanted to ask a few questions about my 3 Angel Fish, all new to this Tropical Fish keeping, other pets are Fat cat and Ferret( which does not like me much!). I have a big Zebra Angelfish and 2 other which I think are Albino, thing is the Zebra and 1 of the others a few week ago paired off and layed eggs on side of black filter, and they seemed to bully the other Angel, they ate the eggs, they have settled down a bit with the bullying of the other fish. First Question is why do you think they ate the eggs?.Second is do you think the 3 of them will be ok living together?, a pet shop assitant says to buy a new tank and take out the 2 paired off Angels. They dont seem to be hurting each other just showing hows bossy. Third question is how many times a year do they lay eggs?. Look forward to what you who know about Angel fish or others who will be able to help!!! God Bless

What size tank? The first few times they lay eggs they may eat them. It takes a few practice runs before they figure it out.

It will depend on wether you want to keep and raise the fry. Get the other tank for them, then when the fry are free swimming, put them in it or let them get eaten in the tank they are in now.

Angels, when spawning, are typical cichlids. They can and will harasss or even kill other fish in a tank.

Angels, and most other fish, will eat their own eggs before allowing other fish to do so.

Angels can spawn every 10 days or so.

It depends on the fish and the size of the tank. As TTA says, Angels are in all rights cichlids and have the attitudes as such. When spawning, the parents will typically protect the spawning site to the extent of death if they feel the threat is big enough. If they are young parents, they will/may eat the eggs continually and maybe one day, they willl breed and let them go to wrigglers and then free swimers. They may not ever graduate to that phase though. I have a pair that let them get to the point of free swimmers and then eat them after a few days. They will eat them before any other fish can, it's just an Angel thing to do. If you want to raise the fry, you may need to start out removing the eggs once they are fertilized by the male and try hatching them/raising them on your own.

Hi thanks for replys. Its a 20 gallon tank. So if the Angel if are not hurting each other or the others( Tetras) is it ok to keep them in the same Tank.

Yes, but that tank is to small for adult angels. Keeping them in too small of a tank will hurt their development.

I have a pair of breeding angels that will kill anything I put in the tank with them, other than the briggs-they killed 5 yellow labs and an 8 inch pleco. Mine lay eggs about every two weeks, they eat every egg they lay, have for about ten times now. Angels IMO are the same as every other fish when it comes to certain things, IT'S HIT OR MISS...
