Just an intro....

Hello all-

I'm thrilled to have found this forum. My wife & I kept a 30 gallon freshwater tank for a few years, but moved from Ann Arbor, MI to Nashville, TN a little over a year ago, and haven't restarted the hobby. We're both avid scuba divers, so the marine attraction is huge.

Thanks to this site, I've picked up several books at the local library & a copy of Fenner's book for myself. We're both making our way through it, and plan to research our new setup thoroughly before we dive in. We've got space for at least a 75 gallon tank, but may try and squeeze a bigger one in.

I look forward to following the threads on the forum, and perhaps as I become more educated, the questions will start flowing. Right now, I'm just a tad overwhelmed.

Welcome to Aquaria Central!!

You are going about things the right way, and yes- it is overwhelming at first.
I remember feeling as if my brain would explode from all I was trying to absorb.

Just read everything you can get your hands on, browse every web site you can find.
At the very beginning you are just trying to get a handle on the whole marine angle, as well as getting some sort of idea as to what type tank you want.
You can have "fish only with live rock" which does not include corals (this has a larger margin for error), or "reef" which does include corals (and not much margin for error). Some corals work better together than others, but that is getting a bit ahead of ourselves at this point.

This is a really good place to start, and Google is also a great resource. Read, and then read more.

Like Cearbhaill said, "You are doing it the right way". I see a lot where people just jump in head first and end up making costly mistakes because of not doing their homework first. After reading all I could, I started my 1st SW tank about 5 months ago and it's going real good.

You're in one of the most exciting parts of the hobby (at least for me), the planning stage. I really love sitting in a comfy chair, sketching out plans for plumbing, wiring and aquascaping. You know, for almost the same footprint as a 75, you could get a 120 [but that's just me wishing I had one]

Thanks for the welcome. Some of my newbie questions are popping up in other threds....

We measured our space today, and a 90 gallon will fit perfectly. I'm just wondering if the protein skimmer will be too loud for a room with a TV (I'm thinking of getting the AquaC Remora Pro)....

If we don't put it there, then my wife is eager to move a couple bookshelves & put a 120 gallon in the home office. I think I may need to slow her down a bit.

I hear Remoras can be a little noisy, but I don't know if it will be noisier than the EuroReef we have on the 90. It's in the living room, and it produces a hum, but it isn't too bad. It would be fine for watching TV.

I think I may need to slow her down a bit.
