Just Bought A Crowntail Male Betta. Have Some Questions.

Okay thanks! I didn't get him the pellets though. I got him Tetra brand flakes that have little shrimps in them that's supposedly really good for Bettas. Is that okay?

that should be ok, for future refernce don't listen to anything they say at big name pet-stores. If you have a question or are changing something in the tank you can always ask us on here! Good luck with the betta

Okay will do! When he runs out of these flakes I'll start getting him pellets. Thanks for the luck. (:

Hope everything goes well with the new crowntail. As a goldie lover I want to give you a lot of praise for returning the Moor! Your crowntail will be much happier in that set up, and probably very grateful, too.

Please post pictures :)

I love goldies too! They're my favorite fish. I really hope me and my husband will move and have more room one day so I can have a big tank with a couple of goldies. And since everyone wants me to post pictures, when my husband gets home I'll have him take some good ones and will share with everyone. (:

Good luck! A tip for feeding flakes: Wet the flakes a bit so the betta doesn't ingest so much air (can be a cause of constipation). Tiny pellets like New Life Spectrum Betta pellets or Hikari betta pellets don't have to be soaked because bettas are less likely to ingest air with the compressed pellets, which is why a lot of people use those. Plus, the nutrients are retained for much longer in pellets (about 1 year as opposed to 3-6 months with flake).

A lot of times pet stores (even mom & pop ones) don't give out the best advice because they often don't have the time or knowledge to train their employees in proper care and they are also out to make money.

Okay well next time we're in the area (pet store is about 40 minutes away and we've been going there every day for the last week xD and gas is so expensive. ) We'll go to the pet store and get the pellets for him. But I'll make sure to soak the flakes so he doesn't take in air.

I used to have this little pet store that didn't have a whole lot of fish or any animals for that matter, but the owner knew a ton and was always really honest with me one what worked and what didn't. But that store is closed now, so that's why I came to this forum.

Your betta would appreciate variety in his diet, alternating pellets & flake would be fine. It would also be good to feed him a bit of cooked green pea. Remove the outer skin & mince up one half - feed about 1/4 of the pea. It's good for his digestion, prevents constipation. But it could dirty the water, so do a 50% water change afterwards.

Looking forward to pics!

Okay, my husband took some pics for me. It was hard to catch him while he was still. He likes to strut about the tank a lot.

We named him Ninja Dude, because he's really dark, and also because he weaves in and out of the plants like a ninja, and goes into super stealth mode to eat. So he's a little Ninja Dude.

Here's the pics of him:

Also, my husband bought some pellets for him today and he seems to like them a lot better than the flakes. So we're gonna stick with that.
