Just bought a new tank and stand off Craigslist

I would treat the wood with an outdoor wood deck treatment/sealant... then water will bead on it, and evaporate... Will greatly increase the longevity of the wood.

I love CraigsList.
A lot of people seem to think they have amazing, rare tanks (Where a 20gal is worth 50$ used) but every now and then you find great deals.

lol i just sold a 20 gallon for 50 bucks on craigslist last night. I sold it with a glass top, a pengiun 280, a 100w heater and a few ornaments.

Nice tank. But $350? I thought you were going to say like $150.

FYI.
The setup I got would have cost me about $1,300 if I would have bought them new at any of the stores around here. The cheapest I could find a tank this size was $375. The stand and hood run $600. The filters that I got are at least $100 a piece. So that brings the total to almost $1,200 then add 7.5% sales tax and it rounds off to a $1300 system. I think around 25% of the the new cost was fair to both me and him. I could have probably bargained him down to $275 (I have lots of experience in haggling in South and Central America) but I'm not a cheap @#$%^@#$.

Up and running

Well the tank is up a running in my living room now. Took me 4 days to tear off the damage and only 2 days to rebuild it correctly and stain a seal it.

I also gave my parents a call and convinced them to bring some slate with them from Nevada when they imposed for the past few days. They left with dollar signs in their eye's when I told them that they are selling slate for $1 a pound on ebay. Cheap buggers are dreaming up all sorts of way's to make money by doing it. They have ton's of it for free out in the middle of nowhere in Nevada.

The Koi have a new home in a pond when the weather warms up. They were sold as feeders out of a LFS several years ago and I rescued them. This past year the buggers have put on 5 inches each.

I thinking of picking up another 4 goldies and then putting in a mess of White clouds, Rosy reds, and maybe some mosquito fish. I still need a centerpiece for it. I'm thinking a little driftwood. Oh, and a whole bunch of plants of course to reduce the amount of maintenance (lowlight only).

Here's some pics

Now on to the next project... I need to get more light into this tank so that I can do a moderate amount of planting into it. It came with a lamp setup for a single 40W T12. As I have 8" of space to put the bulbs into I was thinking of making a custom rig using almost all of the available space.

I have 8" by 72" to play with. Now if my math is right I can put in 4 T12's and 6 CFL's into the mix This would bring my total wattage to 244 watts. What do you think? Is this enough for some low light plants like java moss, java ferns and such? I've about blown my budget for this project so I'm looking at doing this a cheaply as possible.
