how can i know its safe to put back in?

what was the cleaner you used? if it was pure ammonia, its fine. if it was a cleaner like tylex or something, then no. if the cleaner suds or forms bubbls, or contains anything but water ammonia, and chelating agent its not safe.

then how can i make sure that is it safe.

Rinse it very well with plain water, use a scrub brush(not one that has soap, and not a sponge) if there are nooks and crannys. saok it for a few hours, and rinse again with dechlorinated water. Should be fine.
