Just experienced my first Earthquake

Who else checked to make sure their tanks were ok? I had a 55g filled with tons of rocks directly behind me when it happened. :22_yikes:

We got hit in Phoenix by an earthquake in California a while back. It was enough that I was upstairs and felt stuff shaking, but my wife was downstairs, and didn't notice a thing. Thankfully, tank wasn't set up yet.

Damage report Mr. Scott: Lost one light fixture in the bedroom and the kitchen cabinets shifted down about 1/4". Quite a few little trinkets knocked off shelves but nothing major. Epicenter located 15 miles from us. All fishes appear fine. One piece of driftwood was knocked off it's rock.

I am used to them in San Diego but have sympathy for you that have never experienced one. Hopefully you won't have to get used to them.:nilly:

OMG....call me a baby or whatever you want to but I am still in tears from fright. I live in the foothills of Northern Virginia we don't have earthquakes????

Not many areas of the country that haven't had them actually if you read up on them.

Nothing moved here, other than POSSIBLY one battery in one of the smoke detectors. It wasn't chirping, then it started, then I messed with it and it stopped.

Work was evacuated though, so am glad I was working from home today!

Want the really good news?

Expect more quakes.

It's common to get aftershocks up to 0.5 mag smaller than the main quake for 6 to 12 months after a big one.

I don't live in Christchurch, but they had a 7.1 last year, that did some damage. But it was a 6.3 "aftershock" in Feb this year, very shallow and close to the city centre, that pretty much wrecked the place.

At least with yours the aftershocks should be down in the 5.? range, less than what you just had.

But they are pretty freaky, especially if you aren't used to them.

Christchurch has recorded over 8,000 quakes since September last year.

Just more proof that Planet X/Nibiru is going to destroy all life on Earth in 2012. It's already messing with our magnetic field and causes disturbances in the fault lines!
