I have to stop looking on Graigslist. I do HVAC work, so I traded a Thermostat I had extra on my truck for the tank :grinyes:. A 14g Biocube that only needs one bulb replaced. Only it was saltwater. I'm not ready for the SW and want to use it as Fresh water and Move my sons 5g tank to this tank. He has a couple guppies and a Oto now, but I'm thinking of adding a couple of Rams to this new tank. I've already removed the lid and scrubbed and washed once, still smells.
  1. What's the best way to clean it?
  2. Guppies, Rams, and Otos a good stock list?
  3. Stock pump works, so it should be good for this group of Fish right?
  4. Bio-Balls keep or Remove and use other Bio Media?
  5. Can I wash the balls and plastic parts on a gentle cycle in the Dishwasher, no soap?
  6. I hear of mods for SW and for a FW bio-cube?
I would be lost if it wasn't for this site. :headbang2:

Craigslist and ebay have been my downfall too. As for cleaning the salt out. The only way I've been able to do it was with hot water running in the tank and doing some water changes til the salt is all but gone.I don't know off any other way to dilute it. Do NOT put your bio balls in the dishwasher. The dishwasher will still have soap in it even when you wash things without any. That will be slowly released in your tank and harm your fish over time. I've never used a bio cube but the bio balls have worked well for me. Used them in an over stocked 55 and it kept all my levels down and the fish were super healthy. Good luck.

So, If I use bio balls better to get new ones or just try to really clean these?

I've scrubbed about 3 times now, and still need to get glass clean, but the smell of sw is pretty much gone. I found my finger nail to be the best scrubber.

I have an eheim 2236 canister with the stock media cyclying a 37g right now. Is there some way to maybe use bio media for both to save costs?
