Just got an Aquaclear filter and I hate it!

Oh, I took the lid off first thing!! It's still noisy. The water level is high, too. Hopefully it will all settle in a day or two. Hopefully my dh won't notice, he was already complaining about the Aquatech, which I though was pretty quiet. The Bio-wheel on my 29 gallon makes an occasional whooshing sound, which is why I decided to try the Aquaclear instead. Trial and error, I suppose. I will have to get used to the new filter/media changing schedule, too. So I don't really need the carbon?

As for the front room, I grew up in Oklahoma, and people often said front room instead of living room. Maybe it's a midwestern thing, as someone else suggested?

Mine was loud as hell because of prop damage Then i replaced the prop it became even louder, so i messed with it to get it perfectly center so its good and quiet now best night of sleep i have had in a long time(nano reef in my room)

I have a Penguin now and its so loud!

Ive had several Aquaclears and loved them, Only thing is sometimes I would have to take the intake apart clean it,put it together, run it and it would be loud, I would take it apart and put it back together again and it would be fine.

I have 4 AC filters ranging form 50 to 110 size and I swear by them as well... I had noise issues on the 110 once, it was a bent impeller shaft. Got a new one and I can't even hear it running.

If you adjust the pickup tube for minimal flow it will be lounder than if you have tube directly over impeller opening for max flow.

and if your using sand or a sandlike substrate it will be VERY loud if a few particles get sucked into the filter..they sit below impeller and just grind away constantly. Removing the impeller and flushing out the opening will clear the problem.

Aquaclears have been really quiet for me too. I actually got them to replace some noisy filters.

Somebody probably already suggested this but is the propeller in alignment and is it lubricated in it's housing? If it's not, it'll rattle.

If the lid is not placed on the filter, ALL of mine are quiet. I think I have over 10 of them of varying sizes. But I admit I didn't buy one for few years now.

May be they are cutting some manufacturing cost?

I have AcuaClear Mini (which should be the same as yours) in my bedroom right now and I can't hear it.

Three of my aquaclear 20's have been very quiet. How odd yours loud..

I use aquaclears, I love them. WHats even better is they are completely interchangeable with marineland filters since they make them for wally world anyways.

i run three Aquaclear hob filters and i love them too. they are not noisy at all (and yes, i have all three with no lids). nice to be able to insert whatever media you want in them.
