i just got two kribs about 1 inch i know that a bright red spot of the belly means a female but when i brought the two home *i thought they were felmae and male* what i thought the male was has a very very pale red belly and my question is can males have a slightly very pale red belly? or is it definately a female

heres what i've noticed:
females - red bellies and pectoral fin, and dorsal fin is shorter and rounded in the back.
Males - no red bellies or pec fins (or a lot lighter in comparison), and dorsal fin is longer and pointed at the back, and they usually have a spot(s) on there tail, wheres the females do not.
Posting pics would help.

i wish i could but i dont have a camera

oh yea is it fine if there like motionless ive only had them for 4 hours but the mlae one is like right next to the heater and just siting there motionless but i know hes alive

the males do sometimes have very pale bellies, and the females have a very prominent magenta color, especially when ready to spawn

I concur that males can also get a pink belly, but nothing to the extent of that of the female's. The male's dorsal and tail fins will be elongated whereas the female's are more rounded. Also, the female's two pelvic fins are very rounded and usually displayed so as to make her belly look bigger.

yeah, cant believe i forgot about the fins D'oh' :p

Here's a nice photo of a male and female.
Male is on the top right. Notice the longer dorsal fin and the triangulated caudal fin. Males are generally larger as well.
The female is rounder in the belly with shorter, more rounded pectoral fins. The pectoral fins will color up with the belly making the belly look larger to attract males.
