Just how dirty is fishwater???

pfft... I dont worry about it-- I have psoriasis resulting in open sores on my hands at times... and I have never had an issue and ive been working with freshwater for years.

the only time I have ever experienced a problem in one of my tanks was a saltwater incident... I accidentally cut myself pretty bad on a fresh piece of uncured live rock-- the "liveness" of the rock caused this cut to become severely infected

but as far as freshwater goes--- SWIM ON!!

If you've got TB in your tanks, then it's a potential problem. If not, then it isn't.

I'm in and out of my tanks all the time. I don't wash my hands each and every time. It's too much trouble to stop what I'm doing and go do that just to take a break from it, do something else, then go back to a tank. I grew up in a family that went camping a lot.. lakes, ponds, streams, so I don't get grossed out from a little fishy water.

I have accidentally swallowed some tank water in the past and it tasted awful. Sort of a chemical taste. Anyone else notice that?
My parameters are always good. I guess it must be the dechlor that caused the taste.
If I have any sort of minor wound it will be sore after being in the water. I rinse afterward.

Actually its reverse, people living in urban centers with high population densities have stronger immune systems, since you're in contact with more nasties. The reason infections are getting stronger, is from the use of antibiotics, and the resulting tolerant strains.

ahh ok.

I almost always have random cuts and scrapes on my hands and don't worry about it much. I will wash REALLY well after doing anything around the corals in my reef tank, but have zero hesitation to dive right into the FW tanks. I know about M. marinum, but I also know that I could get killed by falling aircraft debris.

I don't worry too much about it. I only have FW and one brackish tank, so I don't have to worry about live rock or anything like that. If I have an open sore or anything, then I make it a point to wash with an antibacterial soap. Otherwise, just dry off in between and then rinse when done with all maintenance and maybe wash with soap.
