yesterday i noticed that my cory had a red spot on each side of his head where his ears would be. he stoped being very active and today i found him dead. do you have any idea what caused it. it looked like blood but i am not sure. i just put an angle fish in so i am wonder if it carried something into the tank.

Sounds like ammonia poisoning. What are your water parameters? How'd you cycle the tank? What other inhabitants?

ammonia 0, nitires 0, nitrates 10. the tank has been completely cycled for about two and a half months. 7 zebra danios, 4 white skirt tetras, 3 dwarf gramies, 2 dalmation mollies.

Hmmm.... What sized tank and what test kit are you using? Strips or liquid? Are you adding salt by chance? I'm fishing here (pun intended)...

29 gallon,(i know a bit over stocked, running a 60 gallon filter so all is good), api liquid test kit (up there with the best i believe), no salt. the only guys in there that need the salt are the molleys but they are doing great with out it.

I must admit that I'm stumped, it sounds like you have everything right.... How long was the cory in the tank?

I am depressed and share your pain. I just lost 2 cories to what I suspect is metal poisoning.

I'm stumped aswell.

If you incounter that problem again, be sure to do a 25% water change right away.

Corydoras tend to just die, since many are sold to young or are wild caught.

What were you feeding yours?
