Just picked up some drift wood from my river

how exactly do you do this CO2 "cleansing"? im kinda curios how you use it to suffocate the cooties.

ya that was kinda confusing i would like to know too, but i dont thinkim going for the moss, but does anyone have any suggestions for some plants to have in with my cresties?

I really wish you would use the wood and moss in a vivarium or paludarium...

but to do a co2 treatment for pests, I've read that you can seal it in a tank with a chunk of dry ice, and the co2 pushes out all the other air, and suffocates pests. I think you need to do it a few times, to make sure anything that hatches after the first dose doesn't make it. But I'm not exactly sure of the dosing schedule.

dry ice version... http://www.orchidboard.com/node/5

DON'T TOUCH THE DRY ICE. IT'S SO COLD IT CAN BURN YOUR SKIN RIGHT OFF AND CAUSE ALMOST INSTANT FROSTBITE. USE TONGS OR SOMETHING.

when i do mine i actually just put my plants in a garbage bag. i add a large bowl with a cup or 2 of sugar maybe 1/4 cup of bakers yeast and 80-90 degree filtered water. i let it sit in there about over night and open the bag somewhere ventilated since you could (theoretically) suffocate yourself.

there are other ways to make co2 also. i've discussed a couple similar to the one i wrote out using baking soda but i don't remember specifics.

it's usually suggested to do another one maybe 2 weeks later for good measure with new wild acquisitions... especially if they're collected during winter cold. it might take some time for the critters to come out of their winter slumber and hatch.

Maybe in some parts of the world it's a must to boil driftwood but here in the states in the north east i have added local moss driftwood plants many times . yes critters have appeared and spawned but i would think insects would be devoured by the gecko. As far as mold simply add some air flow and it will die.

the geckos won't eat everything that can hatch out. some things that can hatch out can eat geckos though.

air flow is a common solution to mold but not always a solution.

Glad I popped into this thread; the CO2 critter killer is a great idea!

For even quicker CO2 production in the trashbag vinegar + baking soda should also work.
