Well, I was going to do a SW tank for my 55g tank but my wife isn't to keen on the cost of it. So instead I'm going with a planted tank(for now :D ). I just wanted to say thanks to the people in the SW section for their help. Hopefully next year I can get one started.
 
Not to scare your wife, but if you really go nuts with a full-out pressurized CO2 system with MH lighting and a fancy pants substrate like Eco-complete, a planted tank's cost can approach that of a SW system.

Good luck whichever direction you choose!
 
A lot of it is going to be DIY on the planted tank. I figured the cost at about 1/4 of the SW tank.
