Hey guys, I just picked up a used 35 gallon hex and stand at a garage sale, and am thinking of doing a FOWLR tank. I have 2 freshwater tanks currently, so I think SW would be an interesting change.

However, I have no idea where to start, or what kind of fish/inverts I could put or would need in this kind of tank. I know the tall tank is not preferable, but for $25 I couldn't pass it up.

What kind of fish would be well suited for this size tank, and what equipment would I need. Thanks for your help.

Has a list of set-up items.

Features fish suitable for a nano tank.

However with that said, if you are experienced with basic water chemistry as most experienced FW people are you might consider a specialized tank for seahorses with a tall tank. I wouldn't typically recommend them to SW beginners but if you think you're up to a bunch of reading and a commitment to meet their specialized needs a 35g tall would be appropriate.

Grins posted some great links, which pretty much covered everything. I don't have much to add. I would think carefully about your fish stocking. Since you aren't aiming for a reef setup then most of your entertainment will come from your fish. Maybe ask around and see which fish people prefer for nanos. I like those with personality. I am biased towards clowns. Especially the ocellaris (false) clowns. Also look into a pistol shrimp/goby pair. I heard they have a interesting symbiotic relationship.
